Principal's Welcome Message
It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Darlington County Intervention School (DCIS). I am eager to join this exceptional school community and looking forward to meeting each of you as we prepare to receive our students. We will host not only 6th - 12th grade students this academic year; we will also begin hosting our elementary grades 4th – 5th grade students.
I come to DCIS with multiple years of experience as an elementary school principal, classroom teacher, mentor teacher, master teacher, national board teacher and curriculum coordinator. I received my bachelor’s degree from Coker College, a master’s degree from Walden University and an education specialist degree from Walden University. I passionately believe that every child can excel as our theme states DCIS is “in Pursuit of Excellence” and “Building a Strong Foundation for College and Career Readiness.” I also believe that partnering with our elementary schools and secondary schools, to impact the needs of our students, we can collectively and collaboratively positively impact the individual needs of our students and empower them to reshape their future.
First and Foremost I would like to express my deep appreciation to all our parents and guardians for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children. We understand the immense responsibility and privilege that comes with it, and we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing learning environment where every student can thrive.
To our returning students, welcome back! Your dedication and hard work are what make our school community so special! I am eager to witness your continued growth and achievements as you progress through DCIS to your next grade level. We will build upon the strong foundation that has been established and embark on new academic adventures.
To our new students and their families, our dedicated staff members are here to support you every step of the way, ensuring a smooth transition that fosters a sense of belonging and the importance of having a positive mindset. Teachers have undergone specialized training to bring innovative instructional techniques and technology integration into the classroom, creating an environment conducive to learning.
At DCIS, we strongly believe in the power of collaboration between parents, students, and the school community to support teaching and learning. We encourage open communication and active involvement to foster a strong partnership that supports the development of the students. Therefore, throughout the school year, we will organize various parent-teacher meetings, workshops, and community events to foster collaboration and share insights into your child’s progress and success as they transition to their regular school setting.
Please stay connected with us via our school website, newsletters, and other social media channels. You will receive timely updates as to what is taking place at DCIS.
In closing, I want to reiterate my excitement and anticipating for the upcoming school year. Together, we will create an environment that fosters excellence to educate, empower and prepare all for our ever-changing world.
Sincerely,
Melinda Brown, Ed.S
